ECOSILAC: Development of eco-designed surface coating offering new properties to plastic, glass and textile type supports, using eco-designed acrylates silicones and using eco-efficient application processes
Acrylates silicones are polymers used, after UV-crosslinking, to form anti-adherent, water-resistant, or even improved gliding or shiny surface coatings. Today, an important environmental problem has been encountered with this type of coatings due to the presence of chromium catalyst residues from the synthesis of acrylate silicones and the use of photo-primers suspected of being repro-toxic.
The project has enabled the preparation of the industrialization of the production of acrylate silicone with the new catalysts and the selection of photo-primers in the laboratory as well as the synthesis on the pilot scale. Users validated the pilot formulations (TRL 6) and studies were started at the industrial level. For the particular case of silicon PE or PP films, a study of film recycling has been carried out as well as an environmental study incorporating the polymers’ end of life and their support in the case of the anti-adherent film application.
