INCREASE: Development of a new high-rate process for manufacturing composite structure parts through injection/ thermoplastic compression

The INCREASE project proposes an innovative and comprehensive industrial approach to the production of structural composite parts based on thermoplastic injection (TP), proven technology in terms of timing, cost and processability for mass production for the transport industry. Automobiles, in particular, require high-speed processes for the manufacture of parts with new materials to create lighter vehicles. Composite materials are the most suitable, provided that the cycle time is optimized (30 min for thermosetting).

The technological evolution of thermoplastic materials and the various projects undertaken so far enables partners to define a new and better compromise developed in the INCREASE project: a Netshape process – High performance TP resin – Fiberglass/carbon based on horizontal injection and compression. The technical concepts developed, including optimized thermal control tools, are designed to operate and perform the TP impregnation process on dry reinforcements and on versatile and reversible horizontal injection presses used on an industrial manufacturing unit. It is reinforced by over molding technology to functionalize and optimize the performance of parts.
