DISCOVER: Industrial Development in the Safety of Versatile Metal Colloids
The DISCOVER project aims to develop and industrialize synthetic pathways of metallic colloidal solutions used as catalysts in the silicon industry (colloidal platinum) and the synthesis of pharmaceutical molecules (palladium colloidal). These two metals are indispensable respectively for the manufacture of silicone coatings and elastomers (hydrolyzation reactions) and for the manufacture of pharmaceutical active ingredients (carbon-carbon bond reaction).
The aim is to develop more efficient metal catalysts than those currently used by industrialists to reduce the consumption of these critical metals. At the end of the project, the replacement of the catalysts currently used by more efficient catalysts will allow industrialists to reduce their environmental footprint by reducing their consumption in catalysts and consequently in platinum and palladium. It will also reduce the consequences concerning fluctuations in the price of platinum and palladium and limit their dependence on producing countries as well as maintaining and creating industrial employment in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region.
